Wednesday, June 5, at the Fox Valley Christian Reformed Church of Crystal Lake. Johnson remembered for wealth of friends By DON PEASLEY WOODSTOCK The best way to describe Blanche Johnson may be to reveal how her new friends viewed her. Blanche died at Memorial Hospital Monday afternoon after sufoffering an widened aneurysm. steadily Her circle during of her 25 years in the newsroom at the Woodstock Daily Sentinel. On May 26, Blanche moved into a third-floor apartment overlooking the city square.

"She brought so much joy to our staff and residents during those nine days," Village Cove administrator Mary Lou Stuenzil said. "Many tears were shed here. She was full of life and fun to have around." Irene Tuttle, a longtime employee of the Sentinel and Northwest Herald, remembers Blanche as one whose friendliness "encouraged people to ask specifically for Blanche when they had a news item. "She was patient, friendly and a perfectionist. She started as a proof reader in 1959; soon added duties were given to her because she seemed to absorb jobs when they came up." Blanche once described her newspaper job as everchallenging.

"Working the newspaper is like working with a family," she said. "Every day is an educational experience meeting the public, answering questions, keeping up with the news." When Blanche retired Feb. 3, 1984, she was assistant editor and society editor. A graduate of Harvard High School and Rockford College, she was a secretary before marrying Marcus Johnson. Stuenzil spent a few moments with Blanche while waiting for the Woodstock Rescue Squad on Monday afternoon.

"I helped her into a chair. I held her close and comforted her, then shed some tears as the paramedics carefully took her to the elevator," Stuenzil said. "In just nine days she had become a member of my family."
