E'Lane was born December 1, 1934, and was raised in Hearne, Texas. After graduating from Hearne High School in 1952, she attended Baylor University and received her BS in Speech Therapy from Texas State College for Women, now Texas Woman's University. E'Lane moved to Port Arthur in 1956 and began her career as a speech therapist with the Port Arthur School District. In 1958, she and her husband, Howell R.
